Triathlon

As some of you may already know, a professional colleague of many of ours from the legal profession, Barry Silver, has been involved in raising funds for a number of charities over the years, including the Les Turner ALS Foundation; the Y-Me of Chicagoland Breast Cancer Foundation; and the Fanconi Anemia Research Fund. Every year, Barry solicits donations for a selected charity by running a triathalon. In this event the distances are as follows: 1.5K (.9 mile) swim; 40K (24.8 mile) bike; and 10K (6.2 mile) run. Barry is almost 60 and has been doing this for 25 years the last 10 on behalf of charitable groups. He has announced that this is his last year competing.

We are happy to announce that this year, Barry, who followed closely Hank's battle, has agreed to raise funds for the Henry Schueler 41&9 Foundation in our effort to fight the rare subtype of Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia ("ALL") which claimed Hank's life. In doing so, Barry is honoring Hank's memory and also greatly assisting in our fundraising efforts for this year.

On August 16, 2009 Barry will compete in The Pleasant Prairie Olympic Distance Triathlon. With the assistance of some 41 & 9 Board members, Barry, at his own expense, has already sent out over 2000 envelopes to his past supporters soliciting donations for his run to benefit the 41 & 9 Foundation.

As he runs his last triathalon, Barry will proudly wear on his shirt the names of all contributors during the bike and run portions of the race. Every penny contributed to Barry in his race will go directly to the Henry Schueler 41& 9 Foundation to help further our mission and fundraising goals.

Please support Barry in his efforts, whether it be a financial contribution to the Foundation in Barry's name, or an email of support that you can post to the website. We are grateful that Barry has taken up Hank's cause and that through his efforts, other children will someday benefit from his sacrifice of time, money and sweat in honor of Hank and the Foundation that bears his name and numbers.
